21.11.11 Olympic Effort Sets New Records at Winter
Fayre
Unseasonably
warm and sunny weather tempted out the crowds resulting in a
record-breaking fund-raising figure at Ockbrook School’s annual Winter
Fayre.
This year’s Winter Fayre drew its inspiration from the 2012 Olympics.
Over £4500 was raised on the day on behalf of worthy recipients
Rainbows, the East Midlands hospice for children and young people and
the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
Alison Steele, Head Teacher, Ockbrook School, said: “Our students came
up with this year’s Olympic theme in celebration of next year’s once in
a lifetime national event. Their infectious enthusiasm clearly rubbed
off on everyone who joined us.
“It was a super human effort by Sophie Herbert, Head Girl and her Winter
Fayre Committee, which included Sophie’s Deputy Head Girls and other
members of the Sixth Form. This hard work was well rewarded by the
extraordinary generosity of all who attended.”
Friends and families of pupils at Ockbrook School were treated to a
thrilling selection of activities set in the stunning surroundings of
the school’s 12 acre grounds. In the Sports Hall an Archery competition
encouraged participants to ‘Aim for Gold’, whilst an Assault Course
titled ‘The Road to 2012’ challenged all comers.
Local author and lifelong Derby County fan Andy Faber was on hand to
sign his book ‘Bring Me Sunshine’, a firsthand account of the success of
Brian Clough and Peter Taylor in their team work and friendship. A dad’s
cake baking competition, raffle and silent auction all added to the
enjoyment of the day and helped raise the record figure.
