How we crafted 100 pages to mark IQ’s centenary

What better way to mark a century in business than to create a commemorative book that members and employees can savour and have as a keepsake for the future? That was our thinking behind ‘Inspiring for Generations’, a 100-page celebration of the Institute of Quarrying’s centenary year.

But rather than dwell on the past, we wanted something to motivate the future by capturing the spirit of the hundredth year. And that meant not a lot of words and a lot of stunning photographs. Making the book that little bit more exclusive, we printed a special limited edition run of 100 hardback books, as a one-off print run. Perfect bound, the book’s quality feel was emphasised by the beautiful tactility of a matt varnish to the outside front cover. Recycled stock was an acknowledgement of the important role sustainability plays in the quarrying and minerals extractives sectors.

A further run of perfect bound books with a lighter cover material was printed as a more accessible version for IQ members on a budget. And as a special nod to IQ’s project manager Sarah Fry, we created her own personal visual record of the project as a book; a personal keepsake for a memorable moment in her career.
